BitchStickers

"Hand me that box of bitch stickers." "The what?" I asked.

I was a young EMT-B a year into transports, random 911's near small fire districts, and total sleep deprivation. We had already driven back and forth between counties and large cities, but we just hit hour 21 of 24!  This was the point in the shift where you almost felt buzzed from a shot or two of alcohol, and you have no choice but to deal with it. But that was ok. For some, they get irritable and just quiet. However, I was quite the oposite. Yes I felt a little loopy, but it helped to ease the sad things we may see. I kept my sense of humor and my demeanor was meant to be as laid back as possible. Due to this nature, some of the funniest people have been in my life. One of them being my buddy Adam. We got along immediately, and he showed me that sometime's you really just can't care. So when he told me to hand him a box of "bitch stickers" (with a full blown straight face like no one calls them anything else) And! While we were in a patients room! lol Deep down I wanted to laugh so hard, but I knew I couldn't... I read the room. Then immediately I realized I read the room. "Dude you cant just say that in here!" But, apparently the patient was deaf. So she didn't hear anything. She was only thankful we covered a small skin tear with a bandaid.

Reminiscing through the career you think about the small moments that stick with you. And the people that impacted you. We're approaching Adams passing of almost two years now. He was the one that taught me early on that you just need to rip that bandaid off. There are tough times on our bodies, minds, emotions, friends, family, etc etc. It can be hard considering all the factors, but I thrived. I hope everyone else can too! So rip that BitchSticker off!
